During a Netflix marathon, I had an epiphany that I don’t really watch Cable TV anymore; all I watch is Netflix or sometimes Prime Video. In addition, I realized I was paying for my Spectrum services for no reason at all. So I decided to cancel my subscription.

All the equipment issued by Spectrum to be used with Spectrum services remains the property of Spectrum. So, I had to return my equipment as well. But it was more complicated than I thought. So I sat down and found out all the ways by which you could return everything so that it’ll be easier for you to do it on your own.

You can return your Spectrum Equipment via UPS Return, FedEx Return, U.S Postal Service, Spectrum Store Drop Off, or even Equipment Pick-Up. Always keep your Return Deadline in mind.

Why Would You Need to Return Spectrum Equipment?

Spectrum issues equipment to use with different Spectrum Services like Spectrum TV, Spectrum Internet, Spectrum Voice, etc.

If you’re thinking of disconnecting or downgrading any Spectrum services, it is your responsibility to return all the items you leased from them.

If you want to Cancel Spectrum Internet, you’ll have to return the equipment. Then there are other cases where you might want to downgrade.

For example, your current internet plan has a higher cap than you really need, or maybe your Spectrum Internet Keeps Dropping, so you’d have to return the modem, and they will send you a modem that would fit the plan you are looking for.

How Long Do You Have to Return the Equipment?

Once you have received confirmation for disconnection or downgrading, the next step is to return the equipment. Again, spectrum people have clearly stated in their Terms and Conditions that you have to return the equipment within 15 days of confirmation.

If you fail to do it in this 15 day time period, they will charge you some fee. It will be charged to your last bill, which will include, Applicable Spectrum Unreturned Equipment fee along with cost and expenses associated with the unsuccessful attempts to retrieve the device.

How to Return

There are several methods by which you can return the leased equipment. We’ll go through them one by one.

UPS Return

You may return the equipment via United Parcel Service (UPS). All you have to do is to bring the equipment to your nearest UPS store. If you can’t find the nearest store, you may use the UPS Store Locator to track the nearest store. This facility is also available on their website.

UPS is authorized to package and return the equipment to Spectrum, so they won’t charge you for returning the equipment. It is entirely free. All you have to do is, tell them you’re a Spectrum Client, and they will take care of the rest.

FedEx Return

If there is no UPS store or Spectrum store in your area, you may return it through FedEx. They are one of the most prominent delivery service companies and are scattered all over the country.

However, there are certain limitations as to the type of pieces you could return via FedEx. I’ll share with you the list of equipment you can actually send back.

  1. Spectrum Voice Modems
  2. Spectrum receivers
  3. Wi-Fi Routers
  4. DOCSIS 2.0 Wi-Fi gateway devices
  5. DOCSIS 3.0 modems
  6. DOCSIS 3.0 gateway devices

If a return label is provided with the equipment, make sure to attach it to the cardboard box carrying the equipment. Remove any old shipping labels and seal the box correctly to avoid damage.

Keep the receipt and note down the tracking number. Then, you may report to Spectrum about the return and can give them the reference number. Then, drop the box off at the nearby FedEx office. Do not drop them off at FedEx Drop Box. They’ll assist you accordingly.

U.S. Postal Service

If you can’t find any UPS or FedEx near your location, U.S Postal Service is the most convenient method to return the equipment. There are so many retail postal services in the country that you won’t have any trouble locating them.

Make sure that the equipment is sealed in the same packaging as the one you received. Also, attach the return label that was on the original shipping box. Finally, drop the package at your nearest Postal Service. Just like UPS, they won’t charge you a dime for returning the equipment. Everything is taken care of by Spectrum.

Spectrum Store Drop-Off

Equipment Pick-Up

Spectrum customers with disabilities are eligible for Equipment Pick-Up. You just have to contact Spectrum Customer Service and tell them about the return. Then, a technician will come to collect your equipment.

Unreturned Equipment Fees

If you are unsuccessful in returning the rented or leased equipment after you cancel or downgrade the subscription, you may be charged with an unrequited equipment fee.

Clients who don’t want to return the equipment will also be charged a fee to make up for the losses they might have incurred during the manufacturing process. You will also be charged with this fee if your device gets stolen or lost. The charges will be included in your total account balance.

Final Thoughts

There are certain things that you should keep in mind while returning the equipment. When it comes to UPS, business clients wouldn’t be able to return more than ten devices at a time. It is ideal only for individuals and consumers.

The only main drawback of the U.S Postal Service is that it takes longer to get the package delivered to Spectrum. In addition, you might be charged with Unreturned Equipment Fees. To avoid that, ring up Spectrum and tell them about the package. Keep the receipt with you for proof.

In case you opt for FedEx delivery, contact Spectrum and ask for a shipping box. In addition, you must attach the return label to the package. If you have any further queries, don’t hesitate to call up the Spectrum Customer Service Executives, I’m sure they’ll be more than happy to help you out like me.
